A pourer that aerates on the way through, which is decanting compressed into the few seconds it takes to fill a glass. Wine passes through the shaped glass body, picks up air as it goes, and arrives in the glass already opened up - useful on the evenings when you have not got an hour to let a bottle stand in a decanter first.
The body is glass rather than plastic or metal, so nothing is added to the flavour and you can watch the wine moving through it. Round and peach-shaped versions are available; both sit in the bottle neck and pour cleanly without dribbling down the label. It suits young reds in particular, which are the wines that gain the most from a bit of air before drinking.
Rinse it under warm water straight after use so nothing dries in the channel, and wash it occasionally with a mild detergent. The smooth glass surface cleans easily and nothing in it degrades with repeated use. It is small enough to keep in a drawer and to carry to dinner at somebody else's house, which is more than can be said for a full decanter, and it takes up no shelf space between openings.
