Eight LEDs around the lens are adjustable rather than fixed, and that is the difference between a usable image and a blown-out white blur. Reflective subjects - coins, circuit boards, polished metal - need the light turned down, while dark or textured subjects need it turned up. Being able to set that by hand is what separates this from the cheaper fixed-brightness units sold at a similar price.
It suits hobbyists, repair work, jewellery inspection, textile and print checking, and school science equally well, which is unusual for a device this size. Six colour options are available. Children use it happily, though ages 6 and up with adult supervision is a sensible guideline, and small parts and any lanyard should be kept well away from very young children.
