Washing brushes by hand is the chore everyone skips, which is why most makeup brushes are dirtier than the people using them would like to think. This spins the brush inside a bowl of water and cleanser at 6,500 RPM, driving the solution through the bristles rather than relying on you to work it in with your fingers.
Three steps: fill the bowl with water and a little cleanser to just below the fill line, clip the brush into one of the silicone holders, and hold the switch for three seconds. The upgraded silicone collar grips brushes across a wide range of handle sizes, from a fine liner up to a large powder brush, and you can run several at once rather than one at a time.
Air-dry using the hanging handle rather than spin-drying - high-speed spinning splays bristles and shortens the life of a good brush. Keep brushes clear of the bottom of the bowl, do not run large sponges or puffs in it, and note that some units need a 5V/2A supply. The included cleaning pad works stubborn product out of dense bristles and doubles as a storage tray, which is a genuinely useful second job for a piece of silicone that would otherwise go in a drawer.
